Louisiana Senior Olympians
attended National Games 2009 |
|
A Louisiana delegation of 238 athletes competed at the National Senior Games in San Franciso, CA..
Held every two years for men and women 50 years and older, the
National Senior Games took place August 1 - August 15, 2009.
In order to qualify to compete at
the national level, these seniors had to meet certain
qualification times or distances at the Louisiana Senior
Olympic Games (LSOG) held this fall.
The Louisiana seniors competed in 18 different events, including cycling, golf,
track and field, road racing, volleyball, basketball,
horseshoes, race walking, shuffleboard, softball, bowling,
racquetball, table tennis, swimming, tennis, archery, and
badminton. All together the Louisiana athletes brought home 23 Gold Medals, 42 Silver Medals, and 10 Bronze Medals.
The National Senior Games, like
the Louisiana Senior Games, are dedicated to promoting healthy
lifestyles for adults over 50 years of age through education,
fitness and sports.
In Louisiana, regional senior
competitions are held throughout the state, and in some cases,
participants must qualify to go to the state competition. The
state competition, which includes 28 sports, were held
in Baton Rouge from mid-September through October.
The next National Senior Games will be held in 2011 in Houston, TX. You must qualify at the 2010 Lousiana Senior Olympic Games Championship to attend the Nationals.
For more information on
becoming a participant in the Senior Games, see the Louisiana
Senior Olympic Games website:

Individual Donations are
Encouraged |
|
Part of the challenge of running a non-profit
organization is funding. The LSOG relies heavily upon most of
its funding from public and private funds and individuals.
Please make an extra donation today to keep the
LSOG State Games going strong.

Help the LSOG Membership Grow
in 2010 |
|
Some non-members tell us they think LSOG
memberships are for individuals who plan to participate in the
State Games. The truth is ANYONE who believes in
Louisiana Senior Olympics can show their support and join the
LSOG now. Your $15 dues represent less than 10% of our
operating revenue generated each year. That revenue stream
will increase when membership levels grow. Your friends,
family and neighbors are urged to support the LSOG. We ask
every member to bring us one new paid member in 2010.
You must be a 2010 LSOG Member to receive an entry form for
the 2010 State Championship. |

Memorials |
|
Donations, in remembrance of our deceased
athletes, are accepted. Please forward your donation and the
athlete's information to us. An announcement will be made to
our membership. The athlete's name will be added to a
memorial plaque on permanent display in the LSOG office. |
